Love According To A College Kid

I’ve never believed anyone to be incapable of experiencing love simply due to their age. It’s no coincidence that there are people who get together in middle school and have been happily married for 30 years, there are those who have been married multiple times unsuccessfully, and there are people who have never been married at all.

The beautiful thing about being human is that we can experience love at any age, in any situation.

With that being said, this is love according to a college kid…

Love is the strongest emotion. It overpowers intense pain, fear, and anger.

Love is looking at someone and arriving home. It’s knowing that no matter how stupid, obnoxious, ugly, or terrible you feel, to them, you will always be enough.

Love is not control. It is freedom. It’s choosing them every day with a strong perseverance because you know they are doing the same.

Love is being goofy and dumb in the kitchen at two a.m. baking cookies. It’s laughing with them until your sides are burning and tears are streaming down your cheeks. It’s both passionate and innocent all wrapped into one.

Love is rolling your eyes at them while smiling on the inside. It’s knowing they’re imperfect and still choosing them. It’s silly and serious and soft.

Love is feeling their pain ten times over. It’s taking on their burdens with them because they do the same for you. It’s an ebb and flow of parting and coming together.

Love is respect, compassion, friendship. It’s raw and challenging. It’s knowing you’ll never be judged, only understood.

Love is not a fairytale. It’s hard at times and impossible at others. It’s hopeless to capture in words.

Love is the realest thing out there. If you’re lucky enough to find it, fight for it.
